Economic Development Committee approves two grant extensions, offers second round of 2026 Community Development Grants

The Vernon County Economic Development Committee on May 7 approved deadline extensions for two community development grants and voted to open a second application round for 2026 grant funding.
Amy Oliver, Community Development Director, told the committee that two grantees had used all or nearly all of awarded funds but could not close their projects until work finished. On a motion by Scott Champion and a second by David Strudthoff, members approved an extension for the City of Viroqua’s 2025 project deadline to August 31, 2026. On a motion by Karen Dahl and second by Alycann Taylor, the committee approved an extension for the Town of Christiana’s 2024 project deadline to October 16, 2026. Both motions were approved unanimously.
Oliver said there is an estimated $51,000 available to support a second application round in 2026 for municipalities that missed the original deadline or could not meet match requirements. The committee voted unanimously, on a motion by Karen Dahl and seconded by Alycann Taylor, to offer the second round beginning July 15, 2026.
The panel also approved payment of a 2025 Economic Development loan administration invoice for $10,647.81 (motion by Karen Dahl, second by Wayde Lawler). Larkin Breckel reported the Economic Development Loan fund balance was $237,519.86 as of April 30, 2026.
The committee did not change the policy manual regarding applicant attendance at review meetings but agreed to encourage applicants to attend and to permit a five-minute presentation when they do.
