Commission approves minor SUP amendment allowing a second school at Camelback Bible Church

The Paradise Valley Planning Commission unanimously approved a minor special use permit amendment on June 16 to allow two school entities to operate on the Camelback Bible Church campus (SUP 26-0191).
Staff explained the amendment would modify Stipulation 9.k to permit two school entities on the campus instead of one. No new construction or additional employee ratios are proposed, and the combined student body will remain within the current SUP limit of 120 students. The application indicates the existing classroom spaces will be used; Protos Academy (a faith‑based soccer/sporting academy for 4th–8th grades) would add roughly 28 students at start-up and is expected to peak under 50, while Acton schools currently enroll about 43 students.
Andrew Miller, a Camelback Bible Church representative, told the commission the change is limited to two words in one stipulation—changing “one” to “two” and “entity” to “entities”—and that the schools would be located apart on the campus, with no traffic or architectural changes to the site.
Commissioners first voted that the request qualified as a minor amendment and then, on a second motion, approved the SUP amendment as presented. The motions passed without opposition.
