Two youths honored after finding elderly woman left outdoors for over 16 hours

Emergency Management official Chris Jasper publicly recognized two young residents, Gunner Skidmore and Cohen Chick, at the Muscatine County Board of Supervisors meeting on June 15 for life‑saving actions on June 9.
According to Jasper, the youths discovered an elderly woman who had fallen and been on the ground for more than 16 hours, including overnight. Jasper said the pair summoned help, 911 was called and emergency responders transported the woman to a local hospital after she had been exposed to heat and the elements.
"Their awareness, compassion, and willingness to help a person in need undoubtedly made a difference and very well may have saved her life," Jasper said while presenting certificates and a hero medal to the two young men. The board and meeting attendees applauded the recognition and staff took photographs.
No action was required of the board; the presentation was an official recognition of community service by two residents.
