Bayfield County staff report rising APS caseloads and plan senior empowerment day

Brynna Watters‑Moffitt, Aging and Disability Services, told the Bayfield County Human Services Board on May 28 that the county will hold a Senior Empowerment Day on June 18 featuring presentations and a Tai Ji Quan demonstration, and that Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15 will be marked with pinwheels on the Washburn City Hall lawn to represent 116 adult protective services investigations this year.
Watters‑Moffitt said APS and ADRC workers are overwhelmed by continuous referrals and that the county may need additional staff. Board members discussed funding for new hires; Tom Croteau said funding would likely come mostly from the county levy. Board members and staff noted seasonal increases in referrals, particularly when family visits occur in summer and around holidays. No staffing motion was taken during the meeting; staff said they will continue to assess workload and report back.
