Board adopts 2013 appropriations and advances levy certification options

At the June 19 meeting the fiscal officer presented a 2013 fiscal budget (tax budget) totaling $18,486,600 which trustees approved as a maintenance budget and directed further review in August when revenue certifications were expected. After months of budget review and planning, on Dec. 18 the Board approved 2013 permanent appropriations totaling $18,150,800 (#121218.04).
Separately, a special planning meeting in December generated levy‑certification options. Trustees reviewed projections and authorized three certification options ($3.0 million, $3.5 million and $4.0 million) to be submitted to the county auditor for information and to prepare for a final decision in January; the Board adopted a resolution declaring the necessity for levy certification on Dec. 11 (#121211.01).
The minutes show the Board relied on multi‑year projections prepared by the fiscal office to determine sustainability and the potential impact on township funds should replacement or new levies be pursued. Staff will present final year‑end balances and recommended levy size when the Board meets in January.
