Norwich Township trustees recorded numerous personnel actions in 2015 affecting both the fire and police departments and township administration. The fire department presented and the board approved retirements (for example Lieutenant Victor Lantz), promotions (Eric Eby to lieutenant; Nick Lantz later promoted), and conditional hires contingent on background checks, physicals and drug screens. Some conditional offers were later rescinded after review.
The board accepted multiple resignations and retirements throughout the year and approved conditional or final offers for new hires, including Dmitri Chmil (conditional offer approved Feb. 3), and several hires authorized for the summer recruitment cycle (approvals in May included multiple conditional offers to be effective in July). Trustees also approved promotions and employment agreements for department leadership (Battalion Chiefs and the Fire Chief employment agreements were adopted at the Dec. 15 meeting), and the board approved a promotion for Gregory Young to Assistant Fire Chief effective Jan. 11, 2016.
In the police department, the board worked with Chief Fisher on hiring and academy scheduling; the township also moved forward on dispatching and contract items that affect staffing costs. The board accepted resignations when reported and approved new hires contingent on standard pre-employment checks. Separately, the board appointed Jamie Fisher as Township Administrator in late May and confirmed related hiring and bank-signature authority; the administrator then led subsequent administrative hires and transitions.
Trustees emphasized that most hires were contingent upon background checks, physicals and drug screens and recorded results and rescissions in subsequent meetings as required.
