Trustees approve cemetery spending, veteran‑plot rules and meter work at Wesley Chapel

Cemetery and grounds issues were a recurring item on Norwich Township agendas in 2012 as the Board balanced routine maintenance, warranty replacements and policy for veteran burials.
In January Steve Von Jasinski presented a $9,000 donation to Wesley Chapel Cemetery “for general use purposes,” which the Board accepted. In April trustees approved two grave markers in excess of the five‑foot height limit for the Headlee and Parson families at Wesley Chapel (#120417.02). Cemetery Superintendent Steve Montgomery tracked utility and maintenance items: AEP pole replacements prompted the need to relocate the mausoleum electric meter; the Board approved Converse Electric’s meter‑relocation and LED lighting quote for $1,904 (#120306.02).
Tree replacement and removal were also routine business. Trustees approved a $7,565 quote from Nine Trees Landscape Construction for replacement trees along Schirtzinger Road with a directive (from Mr. Buck) that the trees “are not to be purchased from Tennessee” (#120103.06). Later in the year, trustees approved Ahlum & Arbor’s $1,715 quote to remove four ash trees in the right of way that were infested with emerald ash borer (#120515.02).
The Board formalized veteran grave policy in August and reserved the four remaining graves in the Wesley Chapel veterans section for indigent honorably discharged veterans residing in Norwich Township, Brown Township or the City of Hilliard at no charge for the site; normal opening/closing fees apply and non‑veteran family members do not qualify (#120821.03). Trustees also adopted a policy to waive opening/closing fees for employees with 15+ years of service (#120821.04).
Next steps: Township staff will implement the veteran‑plot reservations and continue scheduled cemetery maintenance and meter work; staff will also coordinate tree replacements covered under warranty to meet November deadlines.
