Trustees approve network, firewall and website projects as part of 2020 IT refresh

At the June planning meeting trustees approved replacing six aged network switches at an estimated cost of $9,000 (motion passed #190625.02). In October township administration presented a comprehensive network redesign (~$25,168), Office 365 licensing for employees (~$9,801), Windows 10 workstation upgrades and a proposed migration of the township website to Revize with an estimated project cost of $13,900 (including an annual fee). Mrs. Fisher told the board the website upgrade would add mobile accessibility, improved document management and enhanced administration.
On Oct. 22 trustees approved the purchase of a WatchGuard M270 firewall plus a three‑year subscription for $2,699 through the township’s IT vendor. The meeting packet also noted ongoing camera-management costs tied to the City of Hilliard’s license and an estimated Township share for upgraded security management.
Mrs. Fisher said the purchases were driven in part by an IT audit recommendation to remediate unsupported equipment and to strengthen disaster-recovery and security posture. Trustees agreed to include the items as budget requests for 2020 and asked staff to return formal quotes where needed.
Next steps: staff will finalize vendor quotes, include the approved items in the 2020 budget and schedule implementations with the township’s IT contractor.
