Bisbee council approves contracts for recycling building, sewer assessment and engineering work

The Bisbee Mayor and Council unanimously approved three infrastructure actions Jan. 20: a ClearSpan contract for a 60-by-80-foot pre-engineered metal building for the Sanitation/Recycling Department ($176,976.54) under Sourcewell Cooperative Purchasing Contract #071223‑CSS; an amendment to the Westland Engineering professional services agreement updating rates and breaking the long-running Old Bisbee sewer lateral project into smaller phases; and an acoustic assessment by RH Borden to finish mapping remaining sewer sections and manholes using SL‑RAT equipment.
Public Works Director Matthew Gurney said the ClearSpan building—which had been budgeted previously—will house balers and provide covered storage to prevent recycled bales from being ruined by weather. The total project budget is $215,000 with roughly $45,000 remaining to pay for the concrete pad; Gurney said the city expects to save money by having city crews pour the concrete. He also said the RH Borden assessment has already revealed collapsed pipes and locations where rainwater infiltrated the collection system at rates exceeding 100 gallons per minute, and that the city plans to solicit CCTV bids for a more detailed inspection of problem areas.
All three actions passed unanimously.
