The City of Gary's planning department opened bids on June 17, 2026, for a proposed animal control/care facility. Three firms submitted base bids and alternates: Gary Up Construction Company submitted a base bid reported as $3,536,300 with multiple alternates (G1–G6, FP1, E1); Powers and Suns Construction submitted a base bid reported as $3,045,600 with its own alternates; and Pangier Corporation submitted a base bid reported as $3,334,400 with alternates listed.
A planning department representative read the alternates for each bidder in the public meeting record (amounts included additions and deductions for G1–G6, FP1 and E1 alternates). The planning department said the bids will be returned to the appropriate department for review and that a recommendation for award will be brought back to the board at a later meeting. "If folks want to look at them or take photos, we'll have them up here at the table at the conclusion of the meeting," the representative said.
The transcript contains several numeric formatting inconsistencies in the alternates and base-bid figures as spoken; the amounts reported above reflect what was read into the public record during the bid opening. The board did not award the contract at this meeting; the next step is departmental review and a later recommendation to the board.
