Select board approves higher transient rates for harbor slips

The Mount Desert select board approved Harbor Committee recommendations to raise transient vessel rates across size bands.
Approved new rates are $3.70 per foot for vessels under 49 feet, $4.20 per foot for vessels 50 to 60 feet, $4.70 per foot for vessels 60 to 99 feet, and $5.40 per foot for vessels 100 feet and over. Committee materials and members explained the adjustment largely reflects a flat 25-cent-per-foot increase this year; the board discussed whether a percentage-based approach would more evenly distribute increases across vessel sizes.
In discussion, members noted a nearby operator, identified in the discussion as Great Harbor Rain, implemented a sizable increase this season and that comparison influenced this year’s approach. The motion to adopt the new rates was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
