Members told the Open Space Committee that staff from the Cape Cod Commission (named in the meeting as Jessica Remple and Heather Mroy) are in the early data‑collection phase of a regional Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP) and offered to assist Eastham with GIS mapping, stakeholder outreach, and survey work.
A committee member said the commission has met with most towns, is willing to produce maps and GIS layers for local use, and is assembling stakeholder meetings through mid‑July. The commission also has submitted a grant proposal to the state to support an economic‑benefit analysis of open space; members said they did not have the grant amount and had not been told the sum.
Why this matters: regional coordination could expand mapping capacity and stakeholder outreach beyond what town staff can accomplish alone and help identify private parcels of conservation interest.
Committee members asked to remain engaged with the commission’s outreach and to supply local stakeholder lists; the commission’s stated timetable anticipates a draft regional plan by late this calendar year or early next year.
