Queen Creek board authorizes publication of proposed 2026-27 budget; no EVIT transport funding yet

The Queen Creek Unified School District governing board voted to publish the proposed 2026-27 expenditure budget and the required truth-in-taxation notice to begin the public hearing process.
Finance presenter Jessica Johnson told the board the materials attached to the publication notice contain the items to be published and emphasized that a final budget adoption will occur at the July meeting. When a board member asked whether the proposed budget already set aside money for transportation to EVIT/EVA programs, Johnson said, "There's not currently money budgeted for transportation since there is not an IGA in place right now. Should one [an IGA] come to an agreement, we would be able to revise to that effect." The board approved the motion to publish and to issue the notice.
Why it matters: Several members of the public had asked the board to restore yellow-bus AM/PM transportation to EVIT campuses so students can complete multi-year CTE programs. Finance staff's response indicates the current proposed budget does not include that expenditure pending any agreement with EVIT, though the board retains the authority to revise the budget before final adoption.
Next steps: The proposed budget will be published and a public hearing held; staff indicated the governing board will consider the final adoption of the FY2026-27 budget at its July meeting and could update allocations if an intergovernmental agreement is reached.
