Pool committee forms, library reports summer reading uptick; city applies for trees grant

At the July 15 council meeting, Park/Cemetery representative Jenny Nixon reported that a pool committee of 13 community members has formed to explore an aquatic recreation program. Nixon said the committee will meet July 17, July 31, Aug. 14 and Aug. 28 at the library (July dates) and the Community Building (August dates) to continue planning.
Nixon also told the council the city applied to the Nebraska Forest Service 'Trees for Nebraska Towns' program requesting a 10-tree grant and that the Forest Service will send a staff member to assist with a mapped tree inventory for city parks.
Library representative Ashy Blacksheep reported increased June activity compared with May: 33 summer-reading participants who read over 400 books, 561 patron visits, 287 physical and 155 digital circulations, 34 computer uses and 52 new materials added to the collection. Staff are preparing 138 items for the Friends book sale.
These items were presented as reports to the council and did not require a formal council vote beyond receiving the reports and approving workshop scheduling changes related to the library’s availability.
