Northern Lehigh board reapproves homestead/farmstead distribution, adds $1.60 tax credit

The Northern Lehigh School District board voted to reapprove the district's homestead and farmstead distribution after county file errors removed some properties from the eligible list, officials said.

Sherry, a board member who explained the correction, told colleagues that Lehigh County and Northampton County did not upload files to the Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) prior to the board's meeting, which resulted in properties that had been sold dropping off the homestead/farmstead list. Sherry said the omitted properties amounted to "over $5,000" in undistributed funds and that the board's corrected distribution "gives everybody that is currently on homestead home farmstead an additional $1.60 off of their taxes this coming school year."

Board member Gary moved to adopt the corrected homestead/farmstead resolution and the motion was seconded. The board approved the measure by voice vote; no roll‑call tally appears in the meeting record. The motion reauthorizes distribution under the revised amount explained by Sherry and does not, in the transcript, specify an ordinance or resolution number.

The board did not record individual vote names in the public transcript. Officials said the corrected distribution was necessary because county uploads to the BCIU had not reflected recent property sales, which briefly excluded some properties from the district's list of homestead/farmstead recipients.

After the vote the board moved on to other business, including scheduling the superintendent's annual evaluation for August and a separate discussion about reviewing public‑comment rules.
