County staff told the Baker County commission that the replacement and mitigation work for the St. Mary's Cove boat ramp will cost more than the original bid and that FEMA has indicated it will reimburse the additional mitigation expense.
County manager Sarah Little said the contractor Nordic bid $548,000 for the boat-ramp project but that moving the ramp and mitigation work raised today's estimates to roughly $874,000. Little said FEMA has "acknowledged" the mitigation and the county expects reimbursable costs; she asked the board for informal concurrence so Nordic can proceed with construction plans and said a formal contract amendment and FEMA obligation letter would be returned to the board at the next meeting.
Commissioners voiced no formal objection to proceeding with design and permitting while staff secures written FEMA confirmation. Little said more concrete numbers and the amendment would be presented within about two weeks for formal action.
