Eastham Planning Board schedules July workshop on zoning topics; reorganization vote deferred

The Eastham Planning Board conducted routine business after project hearings: it approved minutes for May 20 with a minor attendance/vote correction, discussed officer nominations and agreed to defer the annual reorganization vote until a future meeting so members could give the choice more consideration.

Members tentatively nominated a clerk and several officers expressed interest in serving, but the formal reorganization will occur at the next available meeting (the board set a July 15 workshop on zoning bylaws and will also revisit officer elections then or in August if attendance is insufficient). The board encouraged members to think about chair and vice‑chair roles and to prepare statements for that decision.

Staff and board also scheduled a July 15 workshop (non‑hearing) to review several zoning topics: fence setbacks relative to a vegetated buffer, shipping containers (materials and placement), floor‑area rules required under the seasonal communities law, coastal resiliency language and other items the zoning task force has been studying. Staff cautioned that some topics — notably materials rules rejected at town meeting — would need substantive rework and that the town has limited staffing capacity for drafting multiple amendments. The board asked staff to provide task‑force background materials in advance of the workshop.

The meeting closed with calls for an after‑action review of the recent town meeting zoning package and the board adjourned.
