The City Council approved a proclamation recognizing June 19, 2026 as Juneteenth and another acknowledging America 250 and Batavia’s related community events. Mayor Jeffrey D. Schielke read the Juneteenth proclamation noting local Underground Railroad sites and community resources for historical education.
Representatives from the Batavia Historical Society and volunteers highlighted recent Flag Day activities, outreach, and the Discover Historic Batavia plaque program; Brian Lawler and Marty Callahan praised the turnout and local volunteers. Callahan and others described plans for a national Declaration of Independence reading and the city’s 76th annual fireworks show at Engstrom Park, and urged donations to support the fireworks committee.
Main Street staff reported board transitions, improved opening-month sales at new Boardwalk Shops (16% above prior high), 3,005 attendees counted at the farmers market opening day, plans to move the Wednesday night market to align with River Rhapsody, and upcoming fundraising events such as Cocktails in the Park (July 25). Council thanked volunteers and organizers and noted plans to present the proclamation to Pastor Seymour at Logan Street Missionary Baptist Church.
