Resident says second nuisance notice included new photo; clerk to review

During the public-comment portion of the Firth Village Board meeting a resident who identified herself as Kristen spoke to dispute a certified village nuisance notice dated Dec. 11, 2025.

"My name is Kristen. I live at 601 Street," she told the board and explained she complied with an earlier Oct. 24 notice but received a second letter she said contained a different photo and highlighted additional sections of the nuisance code.

Kristen said the first letter included three photos and a single highlighted code section and that the Dec. 11 certified letter contained a photo that was not part of the earlier mailing. She asserted that she and her husband had remedied the issues raised in the first notice.

Clerk Jill responded that the Dec. 11 mailing was the official notice and that it was a continuation of the enforcement process rather than an entirely separate violation. Jill said the village sends official notices by certified mail or sheriff service when required and that staff would review Kristen’s case and follow up by phone.

Jill also reported broader progress on nuisance enforcement: the village had reduced the backlog of cases from more than 50 down to roughly four and said two residents who did not sign certified letters will require sheriff service to effect notice.

Board members asked for Kristen’s phone number so staff could follow up. Jill said she would review the resident’s documentation and call to discuss resolution and next steps.

The board did not take enforcement action during the meeting; Jill said she would review the file and contact the resident within days.
