"This year we finalized the reflection tool and will submit local indicators to the state by the required deadline of Aug. 1," said Cindy Estrada, coordinator of assessment and accountability.
The proposed budget, presented by Mr. Pong, reports a combined unrestricted and restricted decrease of roughly $30 million and retains the districtpositive certification and a 3–5% reserve. Trustees also heard that Learning Recovery block grants will fund part‑time counselors shared across school sites; sites that choose to make a position full-time may fund the balance at their site.
The board ratified tentative agreements with Chula Vista Educators and the Administrators Association for the 2025–26 year and approved a short-term classified position (July–Sept) to support payroll and the summer transition as the district migrates systems.
In a contested vote, trustees also approved a memorandum of agreement that commits the district and its partners to racially just community‑schools practices and joint implementation with the union; the motion passed 4–1 after debate over whether the language implied hiring mandates or other binding personnel practices.
What it means: The actions set the district's instructional priorities for 2026–27, codify near-term staffing and wraparound supports funded through grants, and preserve board-level discretion over future capital and staffing decisions tied to the budget.
