Board authorizes MnDOT and local construction agreements, hears Albertville lane-closure concern

The Wright County Board on June 16 authorized signatures on multiple transportation agreements and heard staff and commissioner concerns about traffic impacts.
Mark Mette (stepping in for Chad) briefed the board on a Minnesota Department of Transportation cooperative construction agreement (Resolution 2644) for a project with construction starting mid-July. He said the county will lead the project, the state is covering the cost and "we have no local share" for that contract. Commissioner Schaefer moved, Commissioner Holland seconded and the board adopted resolution 2644 by unanimous roll-call vote.
Staff also asked for signatures on funding participation agreement 2651 with the City of Clearwater, covering work on State Highway 24 and CSAH 7. Mr. Matteson said the city will handle sewer mains and utility removals while the county handles the portion from just south of CSAH 7 to County Road 145; bids are scheduled to be opened June 29. The board authorized signatures on agreement 2651 unanimously.
On agreement 2652 with the City of Albertville (CSAH 18), commissioners raised concerns about lane closures during major local events. One commissioner recounted recent gridlock when lane closures coincided with a state high school tournament and asked for an explicit assurance of no lane closures. The board asked county staff—specifically the county engineer and assistant—to pass the city's request to contractors and help ensure lane closures do not occur during the tournament window. The board authorized signatures on agreement 2652 unanimously.
Donations and smaller items connected to parks and public amenities were also approved during the same section of the meeting (resolution 2643). The board recorded unanimous votes on the transportation agreements and related resolutions.
Clarifying details and next steps: Bids for the Clearwater project will open June 29; construction on the MnDOT cooperative project is expected to start mid-July. The county engineer (Mr. Houseman) was asked to coordinate on the Albertville lane-closure concern and to relay the city's request to contractors and MnDOT as appropriate.
