Central Texas Water Coalition urges conservation, welcomes new LCRA general manager

Shannon Ham Hamilton, representing the Central Texas Water Coalition, used her public comment time at the June 17 Lower Colorado River Authority board meeting to welcome the authority's new general manager and press the board to maintain regular attention on water conditions and conservation.
"Water is life. Everything else is quality of life," Hamilton said, urging the board to keep water resources on the agenda under new leadership. She noted that recent rain improved conditions but that Lake Travis remained "about 10 feet down" and cautioned against assuming rainfall ends the need for conservation. Hamilton cited everyday wasteful practices — sprinklers running in rain, cars being washed, houses being powerwashed — and argued that "all of that water is spoken for" and should be protected.
Hamilton thanked the board and staff for their work and said the Central Texas Water Coalition looks forward to working with Mr. Garza, Chair Cooper and LCRA staff on planning, conservation initiatives, and infrastructure investments to secure regional water supplies.
The comment drew brief acknowledgement from the chair; no formal board action was taken during public comment. Hamilton's remarks were part of the meeting's public-comment segment prior to the board's consent and action items.
