Board approves multiple labor agreements, contracts and policy updates in June meeting

At its June 16 meeting the Tehachapi Unified School District governing board approved a number of procedural and contractual items spanning elections, labor negotiations, policies and vendor agreements.
Key board actions included: approving a resolution to consolidate and order the November election and asking the county to conduct it; adopting revisions to Board Policy 5144.1 (suspension and expulsion/due process); approving the district’s initial sunshine proposal to CSEA chapter 466 for 2026‑27 reopener negotiations; appointing labor negotiators including the superintendent and district administrators; and approving side letters and tentative agreements with CSEA and TAT where members had ratified agreements. The board completed the AB1200 public disclosure required for collective bargaining agreements with classified employees.
Trustees also approved multiple service and curriculum contracts by motion, including agreements with Advent Health (sports physicals), DigiCoach (observation/coaching platform), Dynamic Educational Services (independent evaluations), Imagine Learning (reading intervention), Learning Ally (accessible audio books), Princeton Review/Tutor.com (high‑dosage tutoring), and various special education independent evaluators. Several job descriptions (vice principal tiers, adult education instructor, chief administrator of personnel) were revised and approved.
Most motions were approved on roll call with unanimous votes among the five trustees present (Trustees Napier and Sweeney were absent for these votes). Board members repeatedly noted statutory requirements for public disclosure (AB1200) and for public hearings when required by the Education Code.
The board recorded approval of a settlement agreement in closed session and reported the superintendent received a unanimous “very good” evaluation.
