The Utah Symphony asked for $23,000 to underwrite its America 250 state‑tour stop in Cedar City, which includes a free Main Street Park concert.
Don Alcott, speaking for the Heritage Theater, updated the committee that the full renovation remains on track for 2028 and that staff are completing a roofing project to reduce disruption. Alcott also provided the day’s ethics and open‑meeting refresher, emphasizing disclosure rules, the 5%/10% economic interest examples, and that many conflicts can be managed with public disclosure.
The board captured a total RAP budget available of $427,452 and noted the applicants’ combined requests totaled about $488,700. No formal funding decisions were made at the session. The committee asked applicants to submit a standardized financial template by the stated deadline and planned to reconvene next Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. to make funding recommendations.
The meeting highlighted both the scale of Cedar City’s arts ecosystem — from volunteer‑run quilt and livestock events to major festivals and touring orchestras — and the financial pressure felt across organizations as venue, insurance and artist fees rise. The committee will vote after reviewing applicants’ supplemental financials and priorities at the follow‑up meeting.
