Mayor Lee Harmon called the Covington Village Council to order at 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 5, 2026, and administered oaths to newly elected member Steven Blei and re-elected members Julie Blumenstock, Derrick Canan and Amy Welborn.
Legal counsel Frank Patrizio opened nominations for council president. Council member Derrick Canan nominated Martin Leistner, and Steven Blei seconded the nomination. The council recorded votes as follows: Jesse Reynolds—aye; Martin Leistner—abstain; Steven Blei—aye; Derrick Canan—aye; Amy Welborn—aye; Julie Blumenstock—aye. The motion to elect Leistner passed.
The swearing-in and leadership vote were procedural items at the start of the first meeting of the year. The newly seated and re-elected members will serve four-year terms through 2029. The council then moved on to routine business, including approving the consent agenda and three resolutions.
