During the March 17 meeting Parks Director Casey reported several operational updates: a temporary repair of the city’s pickleball courts is scheduled to begin around March 30 with work expected to take about a week; staff described the fix as a short-term solution expected to last three to five years and said the long-term repair would require a post-tension slab.
On the inclusive-park project, Casey said the department met with the state and that Steve Beam has donated labor. Staff said an April 13 meeting with the state is expected to yield a notice to proceed; the state told staff not to purchase materials with grant funds before receiving the notice, so the department is withholding expenses until it has formal approval.
Casey said the pavilion remains on schedule and that movies-in-the-park dates were shifted to avoid Good Friday and spring-break conflicts; staff plan social media posts and signage to notify the public when facilities are temporarily closed for work.
Casey also announced passing an exam to become a certified parks and recreation professional, and staff will coordinate procurement and scheduling for repairs, events and grant-related tasks going forward.
