At the March 17 meeting the Greenwood Parks Commission announced the resignation of longtime commissioner Otis Edwards and presented him with a certificate of appreciation for his years of service.
Following the recognition, the commission introduced and swore in Ashley Parker as a new parks commissioner. Parker took the oath included in the record, repeating that she would support the Constitution and faithfully discharge the duties of the office.
Commissioners asked staff about the length of Parker’s term and then discussed opening an application for an alternate member to serve as a standby; staff said the alternate must reside inside Greenwood city limits and that the vacancy would be posted to the department’s Facebook page.
The commission did not record further personnel votes at the meeting; staff will administratively manage appointment paperwork.
