Mount Vernon — The Select Board voted unanimously to allow the town’s after-school program to solicit local businesses for fundraising and directed that proceeds be placed into a dedicated after-school program account.
Kathy Jacobs told the board the program aims to become self-sustaining and wants funds to support scholarships and keep costs down for families. Janette Jacobs, who said she serves on the after‑school committee, said the money is intended to enhance the program and expand access.
A board member moved to allow the fundraising and to require that funds be designated to the after-school account; the motion was seconded and the board recorded a unanimous affirmative vote.
Outcome: Motion approved. The board instructed that donations be made payable to the Town of Mount Vernon and designated for the after-school program so funds are tracked separately and not deposited into the general fund.
