Zoning and land records staff report 124 sanitary permits for 2025 and 17% noncompliance in maintenance reminders

County staff reported 124 sanitary permits in 2025 (57 new, 63 replacement, 4 revisions), 8,161 active septic systems, and that 438 maintenance reminders (17%) failed to meet the Nov. 15, 2025 deadline and have until April 1 to comply before citations.
At the Feb. 5 meeting the Marquette County Planning and Zoning Committee received routine department reports with several operational updates and statistics.
Nicole Ziebell, register of deeds, said a missing number on a Tapestry revenue spreadsheet was $1,172.71 and that the office is awaiting a $1,000 invoice payment from Zillow. Megan Stalker, land information director, reported that new aerial imagery has been uploaded to the public GIS portal, parcel split work is nearly complete (2 of 19 municipalities remain) and staff are preparing multiple annual submissions and a grant application for NG911.
Zoning Technician Zach Hughes reported 124 sanitary permits in 2025: 57 new systems, 63 replacement systems and 4 revisions. Hughes said there are 8,161 active septic systems countywide. Kari mailed 438 septic maintenance reminders that were not in compliance with the Nov. 15, 2025 deadline (17% noncompliant); property owners have until April 1 to comply before citations may be issued. Hughes also noted 12 fire signs are scheduled for installation when weather allows and that the department saw a 30% increase in calls from December (176) to January (229).
Planning & Zoning Administrator Potter added that the annual Farmland Preservation rezone report was submitted to DATCP and that permit-fee contract (GEC) increases and Catalis contract changes are expected in 2027, though exact cost and term details were not provided in committee minutes.
