Allegany County to accept $15,000 state commemoration grant and $2,000 donation for veterans program

County Administrator Carissa Knapp asked the Ways & Means Committee to accept and budget a $15,000 "Empower Local Partners" grant from the New York State Department of Education to support Allegany County’s participation in America’s 250th Anniversary activities. The funding may be used by the County, local communities and the Catherine Schuyler Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution; a short close-out report is due to the State within 60 days of project completion or by Sept. 2, 2026. The committee approved the appropriation of $15,000 to A7550.483 (Culture & Rec Contracts) and revenue line A7550.3820.NY250.
Director of Veterans’ Service Agency Michael Middaugh requested a resolution to accept and appropriate a $2,000 donation from Jones Memorial Hospital and the Legion Riders raised during the 13th Annual Field of Flags. Middaugh said the funds are earmarked to support the Dwyer Peer-to-Peer Program and will be used by the end of fiscal year 2026. The committee approved the acceptance and appropriation of the donation.
Both requests were approved on committee motions and will be prepared as resolutions for the full Board to formalize the appropriations.
