On the highway fund side, DOT requested roughly $3.4 million for salt and sand storage sheds statewide, a program to replace aging underground fuel tanks (important for statewide fuel distribution and emergency response), and a set of patrol facility heating and life‑safety upgrades. Rodrigue highlighted aging patrol sites (one cited near Crawford Notch) and an 87‑year‑old Milford facility request as examples of facilities that need capital renewal.
Committee members questioned the rising unit costs for storage sheds and asked about consolidation opportunities. DOT said costs have risen and that the distribution of small, regionally located sheds supports efficient winter operations.
