Kent Kaylor, Bel Aire’s representative to the Sedgwick County Fire District 1 steering council, updated the City Council on recent steering council activity.
Kaylor described a ride‑along with Station 37 crews, the district’s new training facility design behind Station 36 on 5500 South Oliver, and an updated strategic plan developed with a public policy and management center. He said the district is developing new key performance indicators (KPIs) tied to that strategic plan and expects updated aid agreements with several volunteer and smaller departments; staff said the agreements will be important for the 2027 budget process.
Councilmembers asked about station remediation and facility maintenance in other municipalities; Kaylor said more detailed KPI information will be available at a future presentation once the steering council finalizes its measures. He thanked the council for the opportunity to represent Bel Aire on the steering council.
Next steps: Kaylor will return with KPI reporting once the steering council completes its measurement framework; aid agreement language is expected to be drafted and circulated as it is negotiated.
