The Waukesha Board of Public Works voted April 17 to approve a contract with McMahon for stormwater facility vegetation management for 2025, with the low, lump-sum bid recorded as $15,540.
Staff said four firms submitted proposals and McMahon not only submitted the low bid but also scored highest in the evaluation. The contract covers specialized early maintenance to help native plantings establish along redesigned ditches in areas such as Rolling Ridge and portions of Mission Avenue, after which maintenance needs are expected to decline.
Board members discussed whether the multi‑year maintenance should be treated as an operating expense or folded into a capital project. Staff said two years of maintenance had been included in original capital project budgets, that additional mowing would likely be required indefinitely, and that they would revisit capital/operating budget treatment with finance staff.
A motion to approve the contract carried on a Board vote.
