Board approves $1.02 million amendment for sludge drying and construction management

The Waukesha Board of Public Works on April 17 approved contract amendment No. 3 with Strand Associates, adding $1,020,600 for construction management services tied to the biogas purification and sludge drying facilities enhancements project.
Public Works staff said the amendment covers additional engineer and construction-management hours needed on site while equipment — including sludge dryers, generators and electrical upgrades — are installed. Staff also reiterated that the biogas reuse portion had previously been removed from the project because selling recovered gas back to We Energies proved not economically feasible; the amendment therefore focuses on sludge drying and associated electrical work.
"This is the charge for this change order is $1,020,600," the Public Works staff member said, and noted the construction-administration budget and overall project remain favorably positioned relative to the total budget to date. Committee members asked about future uses of space freed by new equipment; staff said reuse and storage options are being considered.
The amendment was approved by Board vote; staff will continue construction oversight as the project moves into the next phase.
