The Wausau Board of Public Works on June 16 approved Change Order No. 1 for the city’s 2026 downtown utility project (Haas Inc.), increasing the contract by $17,433.12.
Project staff, including TJ, explained the net increase stemmed from add items tied to upsizing water main piping from 8 inches to 12 inches after the bid, which was determined to benefit the water system. Add items totaled $50,791.48. The board also learned that a sanitary manhole encountered in the field connected to an 18-inch sanitary main rather than the historical 15-inch record, requiring the contractor to core a larger hole. Reductions for removing 8-inch water-main items totaled $33,358.36, producing the net increase of $17,433.12. TJ said pricing from the contractor was reasonable and staff recommended approval.
A board member moved to approve the change order; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Board members noted the project is TID funded and that the water department requested the upsizing, so the cost impact goes to that department’s budget.
