Warwick board adopts local law to correct zoning-map errors after public hearing

The Board of Trustees of the Village of Warwick on June 15 adopted a local law titled "Corrections to Zoning Map" to fix an apparent clerical error in a 2011 zoning change that had altered designations for multiple properties.

Board members said the change restores previously intended designations. Isabelle Hayes told the board that Raina discovered a discrepancy in the 2011 filing that had unintentionally changed multiple parcels; the proposed local law returns those parcels to the correct designations the board originally approved. The clerk read the public notice and opened the hearing as required by municipal home-rule procedures.

Trustees debated the procedural and environmental review before moving a resolution under Article 8 of the New York State Environmental Conservation Law. The board issued a negative declaration, finding the adoption "will not have a significant adverse effect on the environment," and directed the clerk to file the required documents. The roll call recorded affirmative votes from multiple trustees; the resolution language and filing instructions were read into the record.

The board scheduled the matter as a formal action after the public-hearing notice was read and comments were taken. The village said it will make reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities and asked anyone needing assistance to contact the village clerk.

The board proceeded to adopt the local law and directed staff to complete the administrative filings. The board then moved on to other agenda items and later entered executive session for confidential legal advice.
