Yerington Planning Commission approves seasonal shower building for Desert Pearl Farms labor housing

The Yerington Planning Commission on Jan. 6 unanimously recommended approval of a Special Use Permit for a seasonal farm-labor shower building proposed by Desert Pearl Farms, LLC.
Eric Anderson of Bighorn Consulting, representing Desert Pearl Farms, told commissioners the masonry shower building would be 4,132 square feet and include 84 showers and 52 sinks. Anderson said the facility would be used only during the roughly four-month harvest season, would sit between recently constructed kitchen buildings and existing tent structures, and would connect to the city potable water system. He said a new septic system to handle gray water is planned and must be approved by the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) before construction proceeds.
Anderson said the building would require minimal utilities and would not affect fire access, parking, existing porta-potties or sanitation areas. When asked whether the structure was under the 5,000-square-foot sprinkler threshold and whether Mason Valley Fire Department Chief Draper had signed off, Anderson said the chief had signed off and that sprinklers were not required for the building.
Interim City Manager Jerry Bryant told the commission he plans to add two standing items to future agendas: routine staff reporting and a board-comments item for commissioners to raise non-agenda concerns before deliberations.
Commissioner Eric Bodenstein moved to approve the Special Use Permit (APN 001-681-07); Commissioner Elmer Bull seconded. President Steve Douglas called for public comment; none was offered and the motion carried unanimously.
The commission’s approval was a recommendation to the Yerington City Council; Anderson said the applicant will submit building-permit applications to the City following Council approval. No public testimony opposed the permit during the hearing, and the commission did not attach conditions beyond normal permit and NDEP septic review requirements.
Minutes show the panel approved the meeting agenda and prior meeting minutes earlier in the session and adjourned with no further business.
