Yerington council approves Planning Commission annual report, begins monthly Master Plan review

The Yerington City Council on Feb. 9 unanimously approved the Planning Commission’s annual report for calendar year 2025 and committed to a paced review of the 2025 Master Plan.
Building Inspector and Planning Commission President Steve Douglas presented the commission roster and summarized actions taken in 2025, including the Master Plan update completed in September 2025. Councilman Nick Beaton moved to approve the annual report; Councilman Omar Lopez seconded the motion, which Mayor John J. Garry called and the council adopted without recorded opposition.
Council members then discussed a process for keeping the Master Plan current. Interim City Manager Jerry Bryant proposed reviewing one chapter per month so the nine-element 2025 Master Plan would remain responsive to local needs. Bryant reminded the body that the 2025 plan replaced the 2005 document and described it as a flexible guide, not a fixed mandate. Council member comments emphasized housing as a continuing priority.
The Planning Commission report notes the commission membership and confirms the Master Plan update was adopted in September 2025. The council did not record additional directives or a timeline beyond the monthly chapter-review approach.
The council moved on to other agenda items; no further action on planning or zoning was recorded in the minutes.
