At a Fire Merit Board meeting, staff member Shane reported that the department has received letters of intent from candidates for promotion and plans to schedule written tests for lieutenant and captain in early July. "We did get all the letter of intents from everybody. We got three for the position of lieutenant and two for the captain," Shane said.
Shane told the board the written exam will be three hours and that scheduling will attempt to accommodate crews so "they can actually have their 3 hours to take the test," noting there is one candidate from each crew. He added that the department sent a run test to a contracted company for grading: "Once we get the results from the run test...the personnel have opportunity to review it. They can appeal it if they want." Board members were told that interviews will be scheduled after grading and appeals, and that board members will serve on the interview panels.
The update outlined the sequence the department will follow: collect testing results from the contractor, allow candidate review and appeal of scoring, then schedule interviews with advance notice so members can serve on panels. No firm test date was announced; Shane said staff will notify board members when the written test date is set. The board also reaffirmed it will receive the test results and be involved in the interview stage.
The meeting concluded with routine scheduling: the board set its next meeting for July 16 at 5:00 p.m. and adjourned at 5:04 p.m.
