Industrial incubator proposal flagged for sidewalk and stormwater review

The commission reviewed a proposal for a 20,966-square-foot industrial incubator at 4900 Allen Park Drive on April 20.
Tom Miedema of Miedema Metals and the owner of the neighboring 4876 Allen Park Drive noted the ordinance requirement to add sidewalks to bring properties into compliance with current standards and said adding roughly 200 feet of sidewalk may not be cost effective if modifications are required to the existing building. Miedema also commented on lengthy preliminary-review timing concerns.
Staff (Greg Ransford) said no public hearing was required at this stage — only preliminary and final review — and that Fresh Coast Planning’s memo identified a few items to address. Township engineering raised particular concern about stormwater detention and whether there was physically a place to site required detention before discharging to the street; Commissioner Bruce Zeinstra noted Ottawa County Water Resources Commission approval will be necessary for any stormwater/retention pond and to confirm prior installations meet future needs.
Commissioners directed the applicant to add a sidewalk to the east property and return with a final plan. The commission did not take a final approval vote at this meeting.
