Street Superintendent Jimmy Johnson explained the options: keep the project limited to the state-funded $400,000 scope or add two additional streets (including Gandandy Lane and a section of Center Street) for an added local cost of about $81,000. Johnson said unit pricing was favorable while contractors were mobilized and that returning later would likely increase costs. Council members noted the town’s 1% street fund balance and supported proceeding to capture the opportunity.
A motion to proceed with the full set of streets passed by voice vote; the Chair said staff will draft a formal resolution for the next council meeting to memorialize scope and local funding. Council instructed Public Works to prepare paperwork and to present final cost details and schedule to the council.
The decision commits local funds in the near term and speeds improvement for neighborhoods identified by staff; formal appropriation language will be presented for ratification at the next meeting.
