Year in sports: Enid reports state qualifiers, program growth and 14 college signees

Mr. Mills presented the district's athletics and activities year‑end report, highlighting participation gains and competitive successes across multiple programs.

He said the football program will play an independent schedule the next two seasons under a new head coach and listed returning-player counts. Cross country had strong finishes with several state qualifiers; swimming sent 12 athletes to state competition and Taylor Higby placed sixth. Fast‑pitch softball finished 32‑8 and was regional runner‑up; baseball won 20 games. Pacer basketball finished 13‑12 — the program’s first winning season in over a decade. Girls track won the conference and 17 athletes advanced to the state meet. Mr. Mills also noted honors for chorus and band, statewide recognition in music programs, and rising participation in e‑sports.

Mr. Mills thanked coaches, trainers, transportation staff, principals, and community partners; he said 413 community partners logged more than 1,100 hours supporting athletics and activities and that the district signed 14 students to college scholarships this year: "I signed 14 kids to college scholarships as well this year," he told the board.

Board members praised the participation numbers and asked about Summer Pride and staffing; Mr. Mills said two strength coaches were hired and that participation numbers may dip slightly as summer continues. Administrators said they will continue promoting participation and report back on program details.

The board closed the report by thanking Mr. Mills for his leadership and the many volunteers and staff who support student activities.
