Marshall County commissioners approve bills, contracts and cancel two lost warrants; SNAP costs flagged for 2027

Marshall County Board of Commissioners met June 16 in the Marshall County Board Room and approved a series of routine financial and administrative items, heard updates from county offices and adjourned at 12:15 p.m.

The board adopted RESOLUTION 06‑16‑01 authorizing payment of county bills, recording Auditor warrants dated June 5, 2026, for $30,300.66 and June 9, 2026, for $528.94, and Commissioner warrants totaling $681,730.66. The action passed unanimously by recorded motion and second. The board also approved per diems for attendees — Sharon Bring $150, Jim Duckstad $750, Gary Kiesow $150, Domita Mack $150 and Larry Nybladh $375 — and passed RESOLUTION 06‑16‑02 by the same margin.

Social Services Director Chris Kujava told the board that “there will be new costs to the County in 2027” related to SNAP administration, flagging a potential budget pressure for next year. Kujava introduced new eligibility worker Jasmin Hays, who was welcomed by commissioners.

Under licensing and contracts the board approved Medica MSHO and SNBC contracts (motion by Commissioner Jim Duckstad, second by Commissioner Sharon Bring; unanimous vote). The board also approved case activity and a separate batch of bills totaling $105,411.27 and accepted Director Actions on a unanimous vote.

Veterans Services Officer Brett Brandon, joined by Assistant Veterans Services Officer Brandon Hagel, reported that client numbers are up and said the county’s new arrangement expanding veterans services to include Kittson County "is going well." The board received that report as information.

Auditor‑Treasurer Scott Peters reported that all 2026 tax‑forfeiture properties have been settled and will move onto the 2027 property list. He also noted ongoing work on an Enbridge tax appeal with the Department of Revenue and affected counties, and reminded the board about upcoming regional meetings and 2027 budget planning.

The board passed RESOLUTION 06‑16‑03 directing county officials to cancel two lost warrants — #340072 (dated June 17, 2025, issued to Outta Town Garage, $250.00) and #345302 (dated Feb. 10, 2026, issued to Tamarac Township, $29,869.34) — waive the furnishing of a bond and reissue new warrants, on a motion by Commissioner Sharon Bring, seconded by Commissioner Jim Duckstad (vote 5–0).

Commissioners also delivered routine committee reports on park boards, watershed planning and AMC District 3 business. Chairperson Rolland Miller adjourned the meeting at 12:15 p.m.

Next steps

The board will hold the County Board of Appeal and Equalization meeting that evening as noted by Assessor Ryan Larson. Budget direction for 2027 was discussed by staff and will be incorporated into upcoming budget planning sessions.
