Welcome Dayton lists events, outreach and recertification steps as committee prepares for audit

Welcome Dayton staff on April 10 provided a run-through of recent outreach activities and a calendar of upcoming events as the committee prepares for Certified Welcoming recertification.
Coordinator Jeannette Horwitz said the group partnered with the Dayton Chamber, Brunner Literacy Center and Catholic Social Services for an Employing New American Roundtable on Feb. 18 that drew about 30 local business and university participants. Horwitz also described a March 31 Know Your Rights Lunch & Learn conducted with the Dayton Human Relations Council, which included presentations from Dayton Police Department, Dayton Public Schools and ABLE.
Horwitz listed a sequence of upcoming activities: the City of Dayton Neighborhood Conference (April 11) panel on immigration trends; a Miami Valley Community Card ID Drive at Dayton Metro Library on April 16; a Welcome Dayton Coffee Meet with immigrant leaders on April 24; the Miami Valley Immigration Coalition community meeting on April 25 (registration required); and a Global Artisan Market at 2nd Street Market on April 26. She also announced the Dayton World Soccer Games on Sept. 12 during Welcoming Week.
Regarding Certified Welcoming recertification, Horwitz thanked Sanghyun Lee and committee members for evidence collection and said the Welcome Dayton self-assessment is due June 30, with an audit by Welcoming America staff scheduled Oct. 20–22. Members who participated in past audit interviews may be asked to assist again.
The committee heard reports from subcommittees on recent activities: Dani Heeter described an April 9 ESL event at Dayton Metro Library that drew roughly 70 participants from 10 countries; Rachel Gut summarized a successful International Women's Day open-house format attended by about 120 people and previewed World Refugee Day on June 27 and a fall New Americans Artist Exhibit; and Christina Mendez reported no new items for the Business and Economic Development subcommittee.
Horwitz asked members to continue contributing evidence for recertification and to spread the word about upcoming events.
