The Lawrenceburg Utility Board on June 15 approved a staff recommendation to sell 82 unused water meters to Rising Sun for $200 each.
Staff explained the meters were purchased in late 2023 and were configured to register 10‑gallon increments rather than single gallons; when the city installed 18 of the meters temporarily to maintain service, the error disrupted billing and required corrective action. Garrett (staff) and Utility Director Rob Schneider said 82 new but incompatible meters remain in inventory and cannot be used by Lawrenceburg’s billing system.
Schneider said full replacement cost per meter would be $232, and staff recommended selling the unused units at a discounted $200 apiece to recoup some costs and use proceeds to buy compatible meters. A board member moved to accept $200 per unit; the motion was seconded and approved.
Officials discussed the used installed meters (18 units) and noted those would likely be sold for parts or at a further discount as they bear no warranty. The board authorized the sale and directed staff to apply proceeds toward purchasing correct meters.
