The Enumclaw City Council opened two public hearings and heard staff reports on proposed municipal code amendments affecting the airport zoning district and expanded commercial/light‑industrial uses.
Senior planner Winston Larson summarized Ordinance 28‑37, saying the proposal would reduce minimum side yard setbacks in the airport zoning district from 20 feet to 10 feet and amend a footnote to allow an 18‑foot maximum building height where the airport district abuts residential zones to align accessory structure height allowances with adjacent residential properties. Larson told council the planning commission recommended approval and staff recommended first reading.
On Ordinance 28‑38, Larson described proposed allowances in commercial and light industrial districts for arts and vocational schools, gyms, health studios and animal shelters/daycare/boarding, and said the draft includes new definitions and standards for animal facilities (inside pens/kennels, setbacks from residential zones and waste disposal) to address compatibility concerns. The planning commission recommended approval following its April 23 public hearing.
The mayor opened and then closed both hearings after asking for public input; no members of the public spoke at either hearing during the meeting. Council did not act on the ordinances beyond opening the hearings and accepting staff’s recommendation to proceed with first reading and further review.
