KEARNEY R‑I — The KEARNEY R‑I Board of Education honored its boys’ and girls’ track teams during the meeting, with coaches praising athletes for a successful season and naming multiple all‑state performers.
Coach Carl, speaking for absent Coach Hutton, described the season as especially fun and successful, noting the boys finished eighth at the state meet, the program won its 10th straight conference title and its eighth district championship in 10 years. He named the district’s all‑state athletes and listed relay teams and individual qualifiers: Maya Sosawatu (throws), Daisy Burnham, Elizabeth Fowler, Abigail McQuillin and Jordan Vaughn (4x800), and student athletes on the boys’ side including Cameron Fowler, Hudson Best (javelin), Henry Hoover (discus, freshman), Jack McCabe (4x100, school record), Atlas Owen (4x800), Reed Perkins (400, 4x400), Isaac Smith (4x800), Sam Wei (4x400, runner‑up in 300 hurdles) and others.
Board members and administrators thanked the athletes and coaches for the season and encouraged the students to stay and celebrate with the board. The recognitions were presented at the start of the meeting before routine business and votes.
