Caro City council identifies sidewalks, parks and water lines among capital outlay priorities

At its March 10 Committee of the Whole meeting, the Caro City Council asked members to submit their top three capital outlay requests to guide preparation of the next capital budget. Mayor Karen Snider asked councilmembers to "write down their top three capital outlay requests," prompting a list of candidate projects.
Councilmembers identified a range of projects the city could prioritize, including sidewalks and street repairs; park updates; parking lots and signage; wells and water-line work; downtown beautification and skip patching; and recreational projects such as a skate park and an ice skating rink. Members also raised affordable-housing needs and a proposal to hire a specialist to address feral cats.
The council discussed local repair needs on Sherman, Hooper and Pearl streets and flagged dog-park cleanup as a near-term maintenance item. The minutes state the City Manager, Scott Czasak, "will take these recommendations into consideration" when preparing the capital outlay budget.
The discussion produced a menu of candidate projects for the budget team; no formal motion or vote on specific projects was recorded. Next steps are for the city manager to incorporate council priorities into draft capital budget materials for future committee or council review.
