Select Board certifies solar farm and building ordinances for ballot; declines insurance on several town structures

The Jefferson Select Board signed certifications putting a new Solar Farm Ordinance and an amended Building Ordinance on the municipal ballot for voter consideration. The certifications were recorded in the meeting minutes dated Oct. 7, 2024.
The board addressed an insurance audit that identified three town-owned items not insured. The Select Board decided not to insure the Veteran's Memorial, the resident sand-access shed and the Fire Station shed; the minutes note the Fire Station shed is expected to be torn down.
Signatures were obtained to add Claudia Orff-Reed as a third authorized signatory for the town’s bank accounts. The board also signed a quitclaim deed returning property to Dennis Alexander after he paid his balance in full.
The permit for Snow Tree Farms, associated with Nicholas Nicholson, was signed. Board members agreed to close the Town Office to the public on Election Day (Nov. 5, 2024); Lynne and Kim will staff the office that day, and Rachel, Brenda and Charlotte will work the polls. Pamela Grotton said she will contact plumber Donald Waltz to repair the public restroom toilet at the Town Office.
The board discussed a tax-billing issue raised by Stephen and Danielle Bailey, who said they received two tax bills despite combining lots; the board discussed issuing an abatement and assigned Lynne to consult the assessor. MaGee’s outstanding road repairs on Somerville Road were placed on the next agenda for follow-up.
