The Jefferson Select Board’s Sept. 9 minutes state the town will advertise a Request for Bid (RFB) to grade and resurface Egypt Road, covering about 2.5 miles from Route 215 to the Alna town line. Bids are to be received by Oct. 4, 2024, and the work is to be completed by Nov. 1, 2024.
The minutes specify the scope: grading, grinding and rolling with a 2-inch base of hot top, 16 feet wide. The Road Commissioner reported that Central Maine Power (CMP) had not installed a support beam needed for blasting at one location, requiring the town to rent a hammer to break up the area before paving work can proceed. The minutes list outreach instructions to contact Maine-ly Paving, LLC and All State Asphalt, Inc. to notify them the RFB will be issued.
The record also ties this procurement to the Local Road Assistance Program (LRAP). The minutes say the town did not use last year’s LRAP balance (about $53,000) and that this year’s LRAP allocation (about $54,000) is planned for Egypt Road. The board put the question of using LRAP funds for repairs to Hallowell Road back on the agenda for its Sept. 23 meeting.
Next steps recorded in the minutes: advertise the RFB, accept bids by Oct. 4, and complete the contracted work by Nov. 1.
